Season Recap

  • 177 members all paying dues (a 20% increase from 148 in 2010; up 195% from 60 in 2005)
  • 29 net gain this year in members (41 new, plus 4 reactivated, less 16 lost)
  • 134 attended at least one regular meeting (76% of our membership)
  • 8 attended all 5 regular meetings (5% of our membership)
  • 45 attended 4 or more meetings (25% of our membership)
  • 85 attended at least 50% of our meetings (48% of our membership)
  • 19 participated in one of our August preseason clinics with another 13 veterans helping
  • 34 participated in one of our June clinics with another 13 veterans serving as clinicians
  • 99 schools were assigned for ranging from Butler in the South to Savannah in the North and to Odessa in the East
  • 629 regular contests assigned (a 6% increase from 593 in 2010)
  • 1,213 slots filled out of 1,213 total slots (an 8% increase from 1,127 in 2010)
  • 52 tournaments assigned (a 4% increase from 50 in 2010)
  •    267 tournament slots filled out of 267 total tournament slots (a 4% increase from 256 in 2010)
  • 688 total assignments (up 7% from 643) with 1,493 slots filled (up 8% from 1,383)
  • 224 regular season contests which included a varsity match (parochial & public) were assigned (a 13% increase from 198 in 2010)
  • 426 regular season varsity slots filled (an 18% increase from 361 in 2010)
  • 11 varsity tournaments assigned (up from 9 in 2010)
  •   68 varsity tournament slots (a 21% increase from 56 in 2010)
  • 235 total varsity assignments (up 14% from 207) with 494 slots filled (up 18% from 417)
  • Varsity level slots were 33% of total slots
  • 162 members received at least one assignment (92% of our membership)
  • 89 members received at least one Varsity level assignments (50% of our membership – down from 57% in 2010)

The following statistics only take into the certified officials:

  • 8.75 average assignments per official
  • 92 officials had more than the average and 85 had less than the average
  • 19 most assignments to one official
  • 5.84 average assignments per NEW official

Other Awards

GKCOA 2011 High School Volleyball Coach of the Year – Denise Craig of Truman High School in the Independence School District.  She really epitomizes the characteristics of this award including her professionalism and game management, her knowledge of the rules and court protocols, her motivational skills – getting the most from the athletes, and her concentration on coaching – not officiating.

 

GKCOA 2011 Volleyball Most Promising Official – Joshua Renander.  Joshua joined GKCOA in 2009 as a basketball official and in 2010 as a volleyball official. He has now finished his third year as a registered volleyball official.  He attended a majority of our general meetings this year as well as one of our summer officials’ clinics.  Joshua has shown a great eagerness and willingness to learn and improve. He has always been very respectful to the players, coaches and fellow officials.
