Season Recap

  • 178 members all paying dues (a 5% increase from 177 in 2011; up 197% from 60 in 2005)
  • 1 net gain this year in members (33 new, plus 2 reactivated, less 34 lost)
  • 140 attended at least one regular meeting (79% of our membership)
  • 17 attended all 5 regular meetings (10% of our membership)
  • 42 attended 4 or more meetings (24% of our membership)
  • 74 attended at least 50% of our meetings (42% of our membership)
  • 12 participated in one of our fall clinics with another 8 veterans helping
  • 26 participated in one of our summer clinics with another 10 veterans serving as clinicians
  • 98 schools were assigned for ranging from Butler in the South to Chillicothe in the North and to Odessa in the East
  • 653 regular contests assigned (a 4% increase from 629 in 2011)
  • 1,225 slots filled out of 1,225 total slots (an 1% increase from 1,213 in 2011)
  • 51 tournaments assigned (a 2% decrease from 52 in 2011)
  •    264 tournament slots filled out of 265 total tournament slots (1% decrease from 267 in 2011)
  • 704 total games (up 2% from 688) with 1,489 slots filled (down 0.3% from 1,493)
  •  228 regular season contests which included a varsity match (parochial & public) were assigned (a 2% increase from 224 in 2011)
  • 420 regular season varsity slots filled (a 2% decrease from 426 in 2011)
  • 11 varsity tournaments assigned (same as 2011)
  •   67 varsity tournament slots (a 2% decrease from 68 in 2011)
  • 239 total varsity games (up 2% from 235) with 487 slots filled (down 2% from 494)
  • Varsity level slots were 33% of total slots (same as 2011)
  • 164 members received at least one assignment (92% of our membership)
  • 92 members received at least one Varsity level assignments (52% of our membership – up from 50% in 2011)

  • 9.07 average assignments per official
  • 75 officials had more than the average and 87 had less than the average
  • 22 most assignments to one official
  • 5.52 average assignments per NEW official

Other Awards

GKCOA 2012 High School Volleyball Coach of the Year – Rhea Moses of Lee’s Summit North High School in the Lee’s Summit School District.  She really epitomizes the characteristics of this award including her professionalism and game management, her knowledge of the rules and court protocols, her motivational skills – getting the most from the athletes, and her concentration on coaching – not officiating.

 

GKCOA 2012 Volleyball Most Promising Official – Marissa Bartolotta.  Marissa joined GKCOA in 2011 as a volleyball official. She has now finished her second year as a registered volleyball official.  She attended a majority of our general meetings this year as well as one of our summer officials’ clinics.  Marissa has shown a great eagerness and willingness to learn and improve. She has always been very respectful to the players, coaches and fellow officials.  She was also selected by MSHSAA to be a line judge at Sectionals this year.
