Joining GKCOA is easy. Anybody with an interest in high school sports and willingness to learn can become a sports official. We’ll teach you the basics and get you started. Where you take it from there is up to you.

Find out if you have what it takes to become a high school sports official. You’ll get as much out of the experience as you put into it.  The GKCOA primary purpose is to educate, train and support high school sports officials in Basketball, Football and Volleyball. We do facilitate assignments in each of the three sports; however, this is only in support of our primary purpose and game assignments are not a guaranty.

The GKCOA welcomes new applicants for membership. We encourage both men and women to apply. No experience is necessary!

Here’s how it works:

Complete the new member application and for those seeking to officiate basketball enroll in the new officials rules training class. Once the assignors have approved your registration you will receive an email informing you of additional steps to take.

Membership Dues

GKCOA Membership Dues for the 2014-15 season will be $25 plus $10 for Basketball, $10 for Volleyball and/or $20 for Football depending on which sports you register.  The GKCOA Board of Directors has waived the membership dues for current high school students.  For questions on membership dues please contact Brian Verman.

Local Officials Associations

Although the MSHSAA does not require member officials to belong to local official associations, it is strongly suggested they join one whenever possible.  Many important ideas and officiating methods can be learned from a membership in a local official’s association.

The Greater Kansas City Officials Association is registered with the MSHSAA and has met the criteria as a Certified Local Association.
